"Yes"

The word “yes” is a little word that can reflect a big commitment. Every day of our lives God is looking for us to respond to Him with a “yes”, whether that act of obedience is considered small or great.

What has God asked of you that you can respond to Him with a “yes” today? Is it what He wants you to do in your marriage or the way you parent? Is it how you handle your relationships? Maybe it’s what you do with your body or how you handle your money or the resources He has blessed you with. Could it possibly be your thought life that He is asking “Will you change your mind?” Many of these examples could refer to your daily habits or your relationships.

However, the word “yes” can also be a response to your faith in God. Sometimes God is calling us to examine the gifts that He has placed in our lives and begin to use them for Him. Maybe it’s to share our love for Him with others or to be used by Him to perform a miracle.

Models of all of these can be found in scripture from the books of Genesis through Revelation where God asked people for a “yes”. Some of them said “yes” and some said “no”. While these responses were not always verbal, their actions reflected their heart.

What will you say today when God asks you for a simple “yes”? My prayer for you is that when God comes knocking, when He comes seeking, when He comes asking, that you not only answer with a “yes”, but that you respond with a kind of faith and action that shows that your little word has a big commitment.

Living to Please Him,

Pastor Terry

  1. Saying "Yes" to the Lord is often not so easy. Especially when it involves Him asking me to move out of a comfort zone or let go of something I've been keeping for myself.

When the Holy Spirit advised me that I was to faithfully take part in the 40 day, "Take Back" I said, "Yes," very quickly. Not realizing at the time how that one "Yes' would turn into a daily, "I will Lord!"

Sixteen days ago (day 1 of the take back) I was in the midst of a trial that was really working my nerves, but by day 5, I was taking my anger and turning it into positive energy to get things done. And by day 14, I decided to start praising God every time I found anger knocking at my heart, and believe it or not, day 16 (today) has been one of the easiest days I've had in quite some time.

"Yes Lord" I'll do it your way.

  2. During this Journey i have found that my yes is my trust in him no matter what. I've been confronted with a lot of things that try to challenge but i continue to tell God yes. This was so timely for me this journey is showing me soo much!

  3. This 40 day journey came at a time in my life when change was needed. I feel that the Holy Spirit is really dealing with me in all aspects of my life. I am on a quest to be a better Christian, son, husband, father, and deacon. All of these hats that I wear where in need of some sprucing up. I can admit the commitment to yes can be the best answer for anyone. God has plans for us all and the expectation on our part is submitting to His will by saying “yes”. I am excited to see the good things God has in store for my life. I am also prepared to deal with the enemy when he strikes.

  4. YES! Seems simple enough.
YES! There, I said it again.

So often we see a good thing, and are eager to commit to it without counting the cost (Luke 14:28). We are a society full of “yes men” and “quitters”, and as a result we have very few committed finishers. There is no wonder the prizes are given out at the end and not at the entrance (Matthew 10:22). Committed is defined as showing great love and loyalty to someone or something over a long period of time. How can we say YES we are committed to God, YES we love God, YES we will follow God, and yet our daily lives show no evidence of our “silent” commitment? I said “silent” because no one else knows of our alleged pledge, but us.

We demonstrate our love for and commitment to God by being obedient to what He has already instructed us to do. So YES we walk in love with EVERYONE (Ephesians 5:2). YES we reside in His Spirit at ALL TIMES (Romans 8:1-16). YES we built up and encourage EACH OTHER (Ephesians 4:29). If we are sincerely committed to God, our everyday attitudes will reflect our continuous commitment to Him. I personally vow to live a committed life to God, to show the world what He looks like, and to serve notice to the enemy and to every demonic spirit that I mean business. I have also resolved that no matter who my life in Christ identifies me with or separates me from, I AM COMMITTED TO GOD, AND I AM GOING WITH HIM! Any followers?

  5. I believe that with every act of obedience and submission to the LORD Iam saying YES!Even in the middle of sorrow, suffering or persecution.
Whether I have all the answers or not, choosing to do what HE says, to me is saying YES!When I humble myself Iam saying YES!,when I walk in love Iam saying YES, even in a place of repentence Iam still saying YES! Saying YES to me is not a one time thing, but it is a everyday in every place .MY prayer is NOT just to say it,but LORD please help me live it without comprimise !

  6. There was a song that came out I believe in the 80's entitled "Never Say No to Jesus", the lyric go on to say "your answer should always be Yes because God, He didn't say no for when He gave He gave His best, saints you are to say Yes, Yes Lord for when He gave He gave His best".
When we hear songs like this, we are pricked in our hearts and motivated to say "Yes". However, after the song is over, we forget the lyric and because of our insecurities, fears and busyness we say "no". Of course, not with our mouths to the Lord, but outwardly it is seen in our actions.
I am reminded of the parable Jesus told in Matthew 21:28-32. "A man had two sons and he said to the first" "Son, go and work today in the vineyard". "I will not", he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. "The father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, "I will sir", but he did not go (NIV). As I examine myself I have said "yes" I will be your vessel but because of situations my yes became no. It is time that we encourage one another. "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovalbe, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord (I Corinthians 15:58 KJ). The Amplified Bible states it this way. "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be firm (steadfast), immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord [always being superior, excelling, doing more than enough in the service of the Lord], knowing and being continually aware that your labor in the Lord is not futile [it is never wasted or to no purpose]. Our Father wants our obedience. The harvest is ready! Will you too say, "Yes"?

  7. I am totally and completely committed to saying "Yes" to my Father and not just with words but with ACTION. I was at a place in my life recently when I was saying I can't, its too much, not enough time in the day,(which is another way of saying No, to me). I was quickly reminded by my Leaders at the church that I have a purpose and that No is really not an option(Thank GOD for Godly counsel). OOOOhhh, and then God, my God, reminded me of all the times he said "Yes" to me when he could have said No. My soul cried out YES,YES,YES a million times over. I am committed to saying Yes with a Purpose to achieve for his HIS WILL TO BE DONE.
